I’ve been reading on dizziness and vertigo. I’ve haven’t felt it yet but It must be painful and disorienting. It seems that vertigo is the illusion of motion even as we stand motionless, but it’s also a loss of balance. Balance itself is also sort of a mapping system inside our head. The canals connecting our ears are on different axis from one another and as the fluid inside of them moves around our brain gets critical information about how move at any given time. Our vision provides more data about where we are. Something called Proprioception tells us where our body parts are and then the brain puts all the information together. Somehow this mechanism begins to falter with age and that’s where vertigo and dizziness come from.
