My Mom needs help getting in and out of bed. Is a bed cane the answer?
My mom needs help getting in and out of bed. Is a bed cane or a bed assist the best option for her at this point? She’s been complaining about back and knee pain and I’m scared that she’s constantly losing her balance, more so when standing up in the mornings.
The first time my Dad fell while trying to get out of bed, I got very nervous… he was still so young… only 70. He told me he was fine, that he sometimes got a little lightheaded when standing up too quickly. So I really didn’t make too much of a fuss and researched bed safety aids that could give him a little extra support without him feeling handicapped. He hates feeling like he can’t do something on his own. From what you say, your Mom doesn’t suffer from anything too serious and is probably still very independent. I would suggest Bed Cane, Amazon carries a a wide variety. It worked for my dad as it is a very subtle aid. It will help your Mom with stability if you feel she’s losing her balance and it will come in handy if she needs help getting out of bed.
A bed cane is a good option for any aging adult who is feeling maybe a little weak and needs help getting out of bed. Bed canes are very easy to install and can ease one’s life. I definitely think this is the best choice for your Mom, it will help with her knee pain.
My husband is 73 years old, overweight and suffers from sciatica. Because of his lower back and leg pain, he has trouble getting in and out of bed in the morning. I got him a bed cane and the results have been positive. Even though the discomfort is still there, the help he gets from the bed cane mitigates the effort. Your mom’s case is slightly different, but I feel a bed cane could help steady her body when she gets up from bed. If she’s having back pain and knee pain, it’s likely that that’s why she’s losing her balance. Have you gotten her checked out with her doctor?
