How much exercise is ok for seniors?
The only thing I can tell you is that as seniors, regular physical activity is one of the most important things we can do for our health because it prevents many of the problems that come with age. How much is too much? I’m not sure and I don’t think there’s a conclusive answer out there. Although I’ve read about some research findings that say that long-term endurance exercise has been linked to some cardiovascular effects, I don’t know if your husband was an endurance athlete in his younger years. In any case, I think if he’s not exceeding 60 minutes of running, he should be fine. A balanced combination of aerobic activity with muscle strengthening activities 5 days a week is the key to a healthy life no matter what your age.
